Disabilities Resource Center of Siouxland (DRC) is a non-profit, non-residential, consumer-driven organization committed to providing and increasing consumer designed services and community awareness regarding disabilities.

We offer five core services of Advocacy, Peer Support, Information and Referral, Independent Living Skills Training, and Independent Living Transitional Services.  We provided skills training in the areas of self-advocacy, assistive devices, socialization, healthcare, homemaking, and computers. We can provide you with the latest information on initiatives for persons with disabilities throughout the state. We can match you with others who have similar disabilities so that you can share common experiences and support each other in everyday problem solving and goal reaching victories.

Three Rivers Independent Living, Inc was one of 8 Centers for Independent Living in Iowa that were created because of the Federal Rehabilitation Act. We started in Sioux City in 1985. All Centers are consumer-driven organizations committed to providing consumer designed services and community awareness regarding disabilities. Today there are only 6 Centers in Iowa. In 2012 we changed our name to Disabilities Resource Center of Siouxland to better reflect who we are.

DRC is a private, nonprofit organization designed to increase independence, access, and equal rights for everyone through the empowerment of people with disabilities. We are a part of a national network of over 400 Centers for Independent Living (CILs) in the United States created to assist and empower persons with disabilities. There are multiple CILs in each state, serving specific coverage areas. DRC serves three Siouxland area counties and their residents; Woodbury, Cherokee and Plymouth.

Our mission is to ensure a fully accessible, integrated society that enables full participation by people with disabilities.

This is accomplished by promoting and achieving excellence in consumer-controlled, self-directed services in programs, education, advocacy, research, and information retrieval and dissemination. These services are self-directed and geared toward increasing awareness of an individual's rights and options as well as the various methods to achieve chosen goals.

It is fundamental that all advocacy, programming, and services ensure confidentiality, guard against exploitation, paternalism, and segregation, thus safeguarding the principle of consumer empowerment.

Like CILs across the country, DRC offers five Core Services to our consumers across our coverage area. These services are invaluable resources and assistance to the disability community.

Our Core Services include:

We are able to provide these services, information and resources through a variety of federal, state and community partners. In addition, we are supported by numerous private businesses, foundations and volunteers.

The DRC service area covers three counties in Siouxland. We offer our core services to the following counties:

  • Woodbury

  • Plymouth

  • Cherokee
